This Property hosted the nobles and the King of Italy. Each of its stones is steeped in history and glory. Sumptuous Riviera del Corallo property, on the northwest coast of Sardinia, built in 1880 on the ruins of an old watchtower by Alessandro, 3rd Count of Saint Elias. To suit the tastes of his wife Lady Rosamond Marke Wood, the shape of the building resembled a medieval castle, reflecting the trend of the time and the rank of the family. Alghero was already a prestigious vacation spot for many travelers of noble lineage at the end of the 19th century. And when Friar Count Alberto became Chamberlain for Pope Pius XI and Pius XII, the Estate turned into a meeting place for high society, with the Pricesses Romanovs and the Free Italian among its patrons. During the Second World War, Antoine de Saint Exupéry often visited the Estate. Then in 1959, Francesco Arborio Mella, fifth Count of Saint-Élie, sold the villa to its current owners. The property was renovated, a floor was built, so that it took its current form. Even today, regular visitors include renowned state, aristocrats and well-known personalities from the worlds of business and entertainment. The view from its windows is spectacular. Founded by the Doria in 1102, in an area already previously populated since antiquity, the city quickly became of strategic importance thanks to its geographical position and its seabed rich in corals. At the end of a prolonged siege, culminating in the Battle of Alghero (Bay of Porto Conte, August 27, 1353), it was conquered by the Aragonese-Catalans who repopulated the city with their own people. Following complex dynastic events, the citadel was then handed over to the Spanish Crown, noteworthy a visit by Emperor Charles V in 1541. The Catalan language, culture and traditions are still present today (the Sacred Games, the famous Easter processions...). Moreover, local people continue to call the city Barcelloneta (little Barcelona). Alghero A jewel set in the most beautiful part of the Mediterranean coast, lit by the clear blue of the sea and the magnificence of art. Nature has endowed it with beaches of very fine sand, blades of rock that are reborn from the waves, caves that are thousands of years old and an envied climate. Alghero is a pleasant little town of around 40,000 inhabitants, busy and lively all year round, with an astonishing maintenance of traditions. Unlike the Costa Smeralda, Alghero offers plenty of leisure and entertainment, both in summer and in winter. The nearby historic center is one of the most beautiful in Sardinia. The large marina is a safe landing place for large vessels, close to the coral works made by refined craftsmen. Alghero is an ideal place to practice water sports, such as swimming, windsurfing and sailing, as well as other activities such as bird watching, photography, underwater archeology and fishing. Those who like tennis, cycling, horse riding and many other sports can also indulge in their favorite sport. The city of Alghero is located on the gulf of the same name, south of Capo Caccia. The countryside is famous for its olive trees and vineyards. The coast, known as the Riviera Coral, is rich in small bays, coves, reefs, unpolluted beaches and pine forests. The Grottes di Nettuno (Caves of Neptune) are not to be missed, they can be visited by sea and by land through the characteristic Escala del Cabirol (Stairway Deer). Also worth seeing are the Regional Natural Park of Porto Conte, the Grotte dei Colombi (pigeon caves), the Grotta Verde (green Grotto) and the Isola Foradada (Foradada island). Lots of land to explore... Sardinia is one of the oldest territories in Europe, with little or no seismic risk.
